The minister of Energy,Hon Ruth Nankabirwa has asked Ugandans to bear with the recent power outages , amidst the looming exit of UMEME saying this might continue up to April 2025 , as government seeks for funding to capitalise uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL)to prepare it for umeme takeover.
"We are going through the tail end of the concession with umeme,we're going through transition period befor that , Government decided not to invest more into umeme .so umeme reduced the investment that means we can't respond spontaneously to answer calls of power outages which could be a failure of a transformer,Or break up of a line or a tree has fallen on the line" said minister Nankabirwa .
Her remarks were in response to concern raised by Hon Brendah Nabukenya (Luweero) who decried the power outages in Luweero, saying for the past two months , Luweero has been receiving power for 2-6hrs a day
