katagwe-Bukiibi,Kamira Town council , Luweero district-  In a small rural village where Youth unemployment and poverty weigh heavily on families,a young man named Ssekasamba Brian is rewriting the story the story of rural livelihoods- one pig at a time.

At just 28 years old , Ssekasamba has built a thriving piggery in kamira town council , turning what started as a modest investment into a community driven enterprise that's changing lives and inspiring a new generation.

A dream Born from challenge.

Like Many young people in rural Uganda, sekasamba faced limited opportunities after completing secondary school.

"There were no jobs ,and many of my friends were moving to the City or doing nothing," he recalls." I wanted to find a way to earn a living and create opportunities for my pears .Pigs are easy to rear and sell ,so I decided to start small and grow."

His first year was difficult.

" Disease outbreak, lack of money for good feed ,and little knowledge made it hard,,"he says .But with support from kamira Agricultural Extension Officer .Mr . Muyimba Daniel ,who trained him in improved farming motheds , sekasamba's piggery steadily grew.

Building A community Network.

Ssekasamba's piggery now includes over 30pigs , including healthier breeds like Large white and Landrace ,But his vision is beyond personal gain .

"I don't want to succeed alone ,"he explains. Through a "pass-it on" scheme,he offers free piglets to vulnerable youth and widows , asking that they give two piglets to others once they multiple.

One beneficiary,Grace Nakibuuka, a widow in kamira  trading center,  shared :

"Sekasamba visited our village and explained how the piglets program works . I decided to join because I needed a source of income. It has given me hope ,I now sell pork in the market, which helps me buy food and pay for my children's school fees . At first, I didn't know much about feeding and care ,but Ssekasamba and the youth group helped me learn,

Youth Empowerment Beyond Farming .

Ssekasamba also runs monthly mentorship sessions, gathering young people to address agribusiness, savings ,and life skills .

One participant , kayanja mark , credits these sessions for turning his life around."

" I heard about the meetings  and decided to attend, I wanted to change life . The important thing I learned was how to save money and start small busines, now I have my own pig farm, I feel hopeful about the future,"

Community and Government support.

Local leaders  praise sekasamba's initiative. Mr Senyonjo Edward , kamira town council mayor says,

Sekasamba's work is an inspiring example of youth-led development.it has improved livelihoods and built community spirit, we provide extension services and encourage cooperative farmation"

Challenges and the Road Ahead

Despite success, obstacles remains, Feed cost are high , veterinary services scarce and market prices unstable.

Sekasamba  aims to form a kamira youth pig farmers cooperative to negotiate better prices and bulk-purchase inputs. He calls on government agencies and NGOs to support youth farmers with training and affordable credit.

Conclusion : A story of hope and innovation

Sekasamba's journey shows that with passion , support and a giving spirit, youth can transform rural communities,

His piggery is not just a about animal- it's about empowerment, community resilience and a brighter future for kamira .
