Sickle Cell Disease

 Sickle cell disease is one of the deadly disease which spreads daily and many new born babies,are born with sickle cell in Uganda ,due to the denial for medical check up before partners engage in marriage affairs.

Mukono General Hospital in partnership with Sarafinah sickle cell foundation, in mukono district organized a one day  free  medical camp  with people of mukono to sensitize them about sickle cell, blood check up and sickle cell treatments .

According to the , Director General of children with sickle cell department in Mukono General Hospital ,Dr Wiclif kisika says that his department is lacking a space in the hospital for only people with sickle cell,and Therefore request the government to build many hospitals which only caters for people with sickle cell." Let the government take sickle cell as a serious disease ,and inject my money to fight it .."

Isaac Kubanga , senior advocate from Sarafinah sickle cell foundation says that people mostly children with sickle cell facing many challenges like lack of medicines in the government's hospitals ,and asked the ministry of health to intervene and empower the NGOs in the fight of sickle cell in Uganda.

Parents and children attended this camp ,says that now they are being affected mentally due to being discriminated in school ,lack of medical bills , moving long distance for medication etc therefore asked the government to set up schools only caters for people with sickle cell.
