Pope Leo XIV has appointed a Ugandan priest Simon Peter Engurait. as the new Bishop of Houma -Thibodaux . Fr. Simon Peter has been the current diocesan administrator of Houma -Thibodaux Diocese.
He was born on 28th August 1971 ,in Ngora -UGANDA. He attended st Peters college in Tororo-District in Uganda. He studied at Notre Dame seminary in New Orleans .
He received a bachelor's degree at makerere university in 1995, A masters of Divinity from Notre Dame seminary in New Orleans in 2013 .
He also served as Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux's Vicar general ( 2017-24) and as moderator of the curia since 2016 .he worked as Diocesan administrator since 2024 .
The diocese of Houma-Thibodaux is comprises of 35,ooo square miles in the state of Louisiana with a total population of 257,548 plus , where over 75,700 are Catholics
He is the sixth Bishop to led the Houma-Thibodaux Diocese
